Payment Methods

Borrowers

Borrowers may pay by using any of the following methods:

  • Auto Pay - enroll in Auto Pay and receive an interest rate reduction of 0.25%.

  • Online Account - sign into meritize.mohela.com to submit a payment.

    • If you have multiple loans, you may choose to allocate your payment across the loans.

    • If you have not already, set up your online account.

  • Call MOHELA - call us anytime at 844.925.6271 to submit a payment with our automated service.

    • To reach one of our Account Relations Specialists, call Monday – Thursday 7 AM – 8 PM and Friday 7 AM – 5 PM CT.

  • Bill Payer Service - Use your bank's online bill pay service. Please include your 10-digit account number.

  • Check or Money Order - mail your check or money order made out to MOHELA, include your 10-digit Account Number:

    * We recommend mailing your payment at least 5 to 7 business days before your due date to ensure we receive it on time. Payments are effective on the date we receive them. If a payment is received on a holiday or weekend, it will be effective on the next business day.



    * If you wish to specify how to apply your payment, include One Time Payment instructions detailing the loan sequences and amounts you would like applied to each loan sequence. This process must be followed each time you send a payment by check or money order.



    Note: This payment method takes the longest for your payment to process.


All payments must be withdrawn from a U.S. financial institution and in U.S. currency.



Co-signers

Co-signers may pay using any of the following methods:

  • Online Account - sign into meritize.mohela.com to submit a payment.

    • If you have co-signed multiple loans, or you are the primary borrower on other loans, you can allocate your payment across the loans.

    • If you have not already, set up your online account.

  • Call MOHELA - If you are a co-signer on a student loan(s) serviced by MOHELA, call 844.925.6271 and speak with one of our Account Relations Specialists.

    • Hours are Monday – Thursday 7 AM – 8 PM and Friday 7 AM – 5 PM CT.

  • Bill Payer Service - Use your bank's online bill pay service. Please include your 10-digit account number.
